I started my research journey working on reproductive and stem cell biology in Prof Ashley Moffett’s lab in University of Cambridge, followed by a postdoc stint in Dr Janet Rossant’s lab in Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Driven by the immense disease burden by cardiovascular diseases, I joined A/P Lena Ho’s lab in Duke-NUS Medical School to study vascular inflammation. This pivot opened up an exciting new chapter in my research, leading to the discovery of novel mitochondrial proteins that play crucial roles in immune responses.
In my own lab in NUS, I hope to uncover more novel metabolic regulation of leukocyte response, as well as uncovering more human talents to their full potential. Join us if you are interested in doing good and translatable science in a dynamic lab!
I am an immunologist who is passionate about science, philosophy, and history. I have worked on the cross talk between the immune system and neurological system previously. It was about how a serotonin receptor affects skin macrophages (Langerhans cells). Currently, I am at Asst Prof. Cheryl Lee’s lab, and together, we are exploring how metabolism affects our immune cells. While it is a departure from my previous work, it is an exciting frontier with a lot of mysteries waiting to be uncovered. Do reach out if you are interested to connect.
I am Sze Huey, PhD student in Dr. Cheryl’s lab. Fascinated by the intricate links between metabolism and immunity, my research interests lie in how amino acids affect immune cell activation and their implications in immune dysregulation in the development of inflammatory diseases.
Sleeping in is the joy of my life.
Hi! I’m Nicholas, a Research Assistant in Dr. Cheryl Lee’s lab at NUS Microbiology & Immunology. I help set up and keep the lab running smoothly while contributing directly to ongoing research. I’m especially interested in infectious disease and host–pathogen biology, as well as immunometabolism—how inflammation and metabolic shifts shape immune function and disease outcomes.
Outside of science, I enjoy scuba diving, freediving, and Muay Thai.
Hi, I’m Ziyue! I’m a master student in clinical pharmacology at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and I joined Cheryl’s lab in October 2025. I enjoy cooking meals and trying new recipes, it’s like conducting a delicious experiment in my flavor lab. And I love climbing mountains because they don't speak, yet they answer everything.
